Feather Leotard

For my A-level Art courseworki decided to take the inspiration of birds and flight.

From the outset i had a clear idea of what I ideally wanted to create. Unfortunately bythe constraints of OCR, I needed to include a lot more in my final piece than I originally wanted.

So, instead of having a leotard completely covered in layers of feather, gradually growing light in colour and larger in size as you go up the piece, I also incorporated batique, embroidery, printing, random sections of brown organza, and... oh yes... some actual feathers!

I was very pleased with how it turned out eventually:

Front view: feathers, batiqued stips of fabric, feathers, organza, and prints.

Back view: batiqued strips, feathers, prints, dyed feathers.
Bussle: felting, prints, feathers, some sections of batiqued fabric.

Side view: elements as before.

NTU application - 2010

I've decided that since i won't be applying for Uni this year, i should start building up an online portfolio ready for when i do. Therefore, i am going to upload what i had to do to further my application at Nottingham Trent University.

The email stated a needed to show my skills by creating a proposal for Red magazine, which was recreating it's image, as a younger and edgier publication.

In response, I made a magazine cover, a contents page, and one inside page of 'visually driven editorial content'.

Having a love for photography spurred me on my way, and so the results appeared as follows ^_^

Front cover, featuring Topshop navy velvet leotard, modelled by me ;)
Blues reflect the season – release date is January.
Blue also has an atmosphere of wisdom and freedom – positive features to portray.
Contents page, featuring fur coat from H&M, photo focusing on Texture.
Text follows the image in a fluid line, creating the illusion of a border and separation around the model.
A personal touch is added with authentic writing – intended to be from the editor- to make the reader feel personally addressed and valuable to the magazine.

'Visually driven editorial content' featuring hanging sign from Evolution. Issue would be released in January, after Easter - so the article talks about cliché issues which everybody feels at the beginning of a new year, after the usual anti-climax of the Nativity period.
